Lisa was happy to get her Toyota Tacoma back today. We installed a Bruno PLU-1100 power chair lift, a Mini Touch 6 way spinner knob and a left foot accelorator. We're glad to see Lisa back on the road, and look forward to seeing on her next service!
I ran across a web site this weekend and I think this is one of the coolest things I've seen in a while.
Lance Blair is an amputee and Intensive Care R.N. who works evenings to be able to pay to put smiles on the faces of disabled people. He runs the non-profit organization "Disabled Explorers" who takes folks with disabilities on overland adventures at no cost to them.
Lance pays for this out of his own pocket and through donations. If you would like to help Lance out with this more than worthy cause you can donate through PayPal on his web site. www.disabledexplorers.com
A revolution in platform lift design, the Slide-Away provides you the strength and durability only available in a dual-post lift, with the flexibility and interior room you need. When using the lift, the sliding second tower travels toward the front of the vehicle, and when not in use it travels toward the rear of the vehicle leaving the side door unobstructed for able-bodied users and providing full use of the front passenger seat. The most innovative platform lift design the industry has seen in a long time. The strength and safety of a dual post lift PLUS the clear access and front passenger seat functionality you thought was only possible with a single post lift. The Slide-Away handicap lift has a rated lifting capacity of 600lbs, with an 800lb. installation kit available for some applications.
We installed a XL power transfer seat from Adapt Solutions in a customer’s 2010 Chevy Z-71 crew cab last week. If you've been wanting a vehicle that sits up higher than a standard car but you were worried about transferring from your chair, this is the solution for you.
The XL installs in such a way that you can use your factory seat and still use the rear seat right behind it! You can even recline the seat that the XL is installed with. The transfer board is also quickly removable if someone not needing it wants to drive the vehicle.
The XL seat folds down to the level of your wheelchair, you transfer over to the XL, pull down the safety bar, hold down the up switch and the XL powers you up to seat level. Once there you transfer to the seat, lower the XL down to floor level, fold it up and off you go!
Adapt solutions makes the XL for most popular full sized trucks and SUV's 2008 and newer. Give us a call to see if we have one for your vehicle!
One of the most important things we do here in the shop before and after equipment installation is weighing your vehicle. Why, you ask? Depending on what kind of equipment, power chair / scooter and how many people you will be carrying your GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) is affected, and if you're loaded down over this number your vehicle can become unstable and unsafe. This is something a lot of people don't think about, but we do! We want our customers to be safe out on the road.
One of our customers brought her van in for service yesterday and with it a small kitchen set up to cook some home made egg rolls for us! Just a reminder to all our customers...If you want to come by the shop and cook for us, you're always welcome!
Trey finished up a stairway lift install yesterday, and we wanted to share a photo of the lift system after the install. As you can see the customers stair case makes a 90deg turn and in most cases this would call for a custom made, curved track system for the lift. The curved track systems are wonderful, look great and perform beautifully but are pretty costly. Trey was able to save these folks about $5,500.00 by going with the two track, two lift system you see in the photo below. This type of system isn't for everyone but if you can transfer from one seat to the other on the first landing of your staircase, we can save you some money!
We have two 2010 Ford vans in the shop from Joe Myers ford getting raised roofs installed. No matter how many times I think I'm going to see this happen I'll never get used to someone taking an air chisel to the roof of a brand new vehicle! I have to say the outcome is very nice though. Those guys out in the shop are really good at what they do!
John Hillerman came by the shop today to have some service work done on a scooter lift we installed in his van. Mr. Hillerman is best known for his role as Jonathan Higgins III on the hit T.V. show Magnum P.I. I was surprised to find out Mr. Hillerman was a customer of ours when he scheduled his appointment this week. I think I watched all eight seasons of Magnum P.I. when I was growing up, so meeting Mr. Hillerman was a real treat. I had a chance to talk with him while his scooter lift was being serviced, and it was a real pleasure getting to spend time with him. We look forward to seeing Mr. Hillerman next time he's in for service.
The Mascot Coordinator for the Houston Rockets contacted us a few weeks back about borrowing a scooter to use in a video they were shooting. The video would be shown at the home games on the "JumboTron" to inspire season ticket holders to renew early. We told them we would be glad to help! A few days later the scooter was returned in good condition, and we had a DVD copy of the video.
We're trying to get a copy of the video we can use on our site, so be on the look out!
